FAQ

Do I really need a web presence and if so what should it include?

The fact you are here shows that you do.

These days many people use the web as the first point of contact to find a business in their area. Entering a few keywords in a search tool is all someone needs to find your business. Gone are the days of reaching for the local telephone book. With a website people can find you regardless of geography. You need not advertise in multiple media locations and potential customers can find all the information they require in one place.

In your website you can showcase what your business does, give your contact details and describe your products and services. To show these off you could use photo galleries or sliders as well as text. As part of your contact details can be a contact form and location map. And you will be able to update yourself this content quickly and easily at anytime, for example to let people know your latest news, offers or events.

Yes but, I already have a Facebook page, why should I go to the expense of a website too?

The simple answer is Credibility: You may have a social media or blog page promoting your business, but it is not as credible as a standalone website which has it’s own identifiable domain name corresponding to your business. When you can point customers and partners to a well formed and regularly updated and maintained website, it tells them you are a serious business.

What if I want to sell over my website?

I do not offer full E-Commerce sites at present, but you will find specialist sites that do. However, if you do not want the expense of a full E-commerce site while you are starting out, but would still like to sell over your site, then I can design one showcasing your products and allowing customers to contact you by email to place an order. This allows you to offer a more personal service to your customer.

How much does it cost?

What is Hosting and Domain Name registration?

Your website needs to be placed on a web server so that it is accessible on the web. This is called hosting. This costs typically 10 Sfr  per month at a professional hoster. You also need to obtain a domain name for your site in the form of www.my-business.com ( or .ch etc) from a domain name registrar. This can cost from 15 to 35 SFr per year, depending on the top level domain (.ch, .com, .de, .co.uk, etc). Finally so that your website is accessible by using your domain name, you must associate the hoster´s web server with your domain name.

You can do all this yourself, or I can do all this organization for you. If so then see Extras for further details.

Do you offer multi language websites?

Yes I do. I can set up your website to display in any number of languages. The website will automatically first show in the language you have set in your region settings of your PC / mobile, but which you can then change to another with a simple click.

I also offer in house proof reading and translations in English and German to save you money, and can organize the same with a partner for French and other languages. Check out my website to see how seamlessly different languages work.

What about content?

It is your website and your content. All pictures used should belong to you or be copyright free, which I can help find for you. I can adapt and edit images for you, or create or edit any graphics or other visual information such as photo galleries or image animations which you may need for your website. The written content of your website is your responsibility, but of course I can advise.

Is distance a problem ?

No. If I don’t meet you face to face, then working via email, Skype etc also works very well

What is a CMS?

CMS stands for Content Management System. This simply means you can update online the content of a website, by logging into an administration page which is associated with the website. When you do so you can edit or delete an existing page or create new pages. To do this no special technical knowledge is required.

What is Responsive Web Design?

Responsive Web Design is a way to design a website that makes it look good on all devices whether it is a desktop PC, a tablet, or mobile phones. With this method the website automatically detects what device it is being displayed on and then adapts it’s layout so that it is readable on that device.
